Our laboratory aims to address social issues such as the declining working population and the digital divide by utilizing information and communication systems. Specifically, we focus on three main areas of research: ① The development of inter-system coordination and control technologiesto support the autonomous driving of electric wheelchairs, allowing users to move freely and safely within buildings; (2) high-speed offloading control technologies that enable real-time processing of large volumes of video and other data in the cloud; and (3) IoT (Internet of Things) technologies designed to solve familiar, everyday problems.

Examples of Research Themes

(1)Inter-system coordination and control technologies to support the autonomous driving of electric wheelchairs

Current issues in autonomous navigation of electric wheelchairs within buildings】

Currently, movement is limited to within the same floor, and collision avoidance performance remains insufficient.

Proposed Solution

By implementing coordinated control between communication systems and non-communication systems within the building, the system enables movement across different floors and improves collision avoidance capabilities.

(2) High-speed offloading control technology for advanced cloud computing

Current issues in Offloading Control

Due to increasing demand for cloud services, network congestion has led to prolonged offloading processing times.

Proposed Solution

By enabling direct coordination between all-photonics communication systems and data center control systems, offloading processing can be significantly accelerated.

(3) IoT Technologies for Solving Everyday Problems

Example of a Common Everyday Problem

Food waste occurs when people fail to notice that items in their refrigerator have passed their expiration dates.

Proposed Solution

An IoT system that senses and analyzes food expiration dates and notifies users when items are nearing expiration can help reduce everyday food loss.
