This study investigates technologies for developing a system that automatically collects and translates multilingual song lyrics into a single language. We established an automated lyric retrieval method using the Genius API and evaluated four translation tools—DeepL, Google Translate, GPT-4o mini, and GPT-4o—for translating mixed-language lyrics.
Experiments conducted on 102 lyric phrases revealed that GPT-4o achieved the highest performance, with a subjective evaluation score of 4.15 and a cosine similarity of 0.856.(Table1) GPT-4o demonstrated superior capability in automatic language detection and reproducing subtle nuances in multilingual contexts compared to traditional translators like DeepL, which struggled with language diversity. Thus, GPT-4o was selected as the optimal API for the system. Future work focuses on building an integrated web application to streamline lyric acquisition and translation.
